Puzzle AI (CEO Kim Yong-sik), a company specializing in medical AI, announced on the 23rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Overlay (CEO So Kyung-min), a startup specializing in XR, for the joint development of a "voice-based medical record system utilizing AR glasses." Through this agreement, both companies plan to actively cooperate to realize a fully hands-free medical record system in medical settings. This technology allows medical staff to wear AR glasses and speak, enabling them to verify whether medical records are being accurately recorded via a display embedded in the glasses.
Furthermore, it enables a new medical experience by allowing records to be saved, summarized, and even transmitted to medical records via voice commands. A major advantage of this technology is its applicability to various medical procedures performed while wearing surgical gowns, protective suits, and gloves. It is highly significant in that it realizes true hands-free medical recording by enabling accurate documentation even in medical environments where the use of monitors and keyboards is limited.
Overlay, which has led workflow innovation across various industries based on XR interface technology, provides AR interfaces and user experience (UX) design expertise specialized for the medical field through this collaboration. So Kyung-min, CEO of Overlay, stated, "This marks a starting point for Overlay's AR technology to evolve from a simple visual aid into a next-generation interface that reshapes core workflows in the medical field."
He added, “It will enhance the efficiency of medical record creation and support medical staff in focusing more on patient care, and in the long term, expand into a future-oriented medical environment that links to real-time analysis and prediction of medical data.” Kim Yong-sik, CEO of Puzzle AI, emphasized, “Through this collaboration, an environment has been established where medical staff can check and save records without manual input,” adding, “It will significantly reduce the burden on medical staff in various environments, including operating rooms, procedure rooms, and endoscopy rooms, as well as infectious disease response sites where protective clothing is essential.”
Meanwhile, starting with this collaboration, the two companies plan to gradually realize a medical-focused cooperation vision, including the advancement of AR-AI-based medical record UX and the promotion of joint projects with global hospitals and research institutions. Officials from Puzzle AI and Overlay signed a business agreement for the joint development of a 'voice-based medical record system utilizing AR glasses.'
